Balmoral Triathlon Club Information

Activities Sept to May:

We do two professionally coached sessions a week with a few other informal sessions, e.g. long rides on Sundays. As the coached sessions are in a restricted area you cannot be left behind.

Talking with others in the club will give you pointers to other informal sessions which might suit your own progress. We have triathletes of all levels so you will not feel out of it.

Swim:

There are no club swim sessions but our members swim in squads or on their own at North Sydney 25m & 50m pools, St Leonards Fitness First 25m, Lane Cove, Mosman/Spit Junction 25m pool and Ian Thorpe Aquatic Centre - Ultimo (Morning and lunchtime informal swims by members).

The coached sessions, which run from the first week of September to the end of April, are:

Track:

Alan Border (Mosman) Oval Thurs 6:30 - 8pm - a few drills then interval type running on grass.

Brick:

Bike and run sets in Centennial Park Sat 7:00-9:30am on the roughly circular 4km road within the park.

Some BTC members meet at the top of the stairs at the north end of the bike path and ride across the Harbour Bridge (western side). About half drive in to where we meet between the Duck Ponds on Parkes Drive in the middle of Centennial Park. (See below for map)

Track and brick sessions vary according to the time of year and become more sport and speed specific as the season progresses - we use triathlon bike racks at brick sessions for real transition practice and the nearby caravan kiosk does great coffee to chat over afterwards.

Balmoral Triathlon Club Brick and Track Sessions

Training Session Outline:

Energy Link Coaching will plan sessions with flexibility and variety. They will be suited to the elite, age group and beginner athlete. Many people are racing right throughout the year with very individual short course, long course and Ironman events and "peak" events also being planned across the racing season. With this in mind, Brick and Track session programs will be designed to the best of our ability with various outcomes and goals in mind.

The cycles of strength endurance/ speed endurance/ speed will be delivered within our training sessions and technique will also be addressed and ongoing throughout the season.

You can be sure that there will be a session going that will challenge you and that you will enjoy.

We will also be around after the sessions answer any questions you may have.

We hope to see you out there!

Coaches: (as above)

We are coached by Bruce & Christina Thomas from Energy Link who have had great triathlon careers at the international level.

We do not cancel sessions because of rain - we may modify them, but always do something.

Competing:

Last season we held 4 triathlons, 3 bike and running time trials and 7 aquathlons. We finished 3rd at the NSW Clubs' Championships 2009, where about 100 members competed and partied afterwards.

Most members take a few weeks off before doing informal strength/endurance work over winter.

We have a wide range of athletes attending sessions from beginners to age group place-getters and we often get a few members from our club qualifying the the world Ironman champioship held in Hawaii.

Winter training, Jun to Aug:

Informal bike group rides from Spit Rd, Spit Junction, at 7am on Sat (steady) and Sun (hills) mornings.

An informal group ran hill repeats from Alan Border Oval at 6:30pm Thursdays from mid June. Sessions included about 2km warm up, 200-400m hill reps (individual's choice of how many, usually 4 to 10 reps) then 2km warm down jog back to AB Oval.

Different small informal groups run and cycle at different times during the week but nothing formal. Attendance at one of the weekend rides at present is the best way to suss out who is doing what.

Costs:
Membership $55p.a. + we recommend TNSW/TA membership as well; necessary if you wish to race.
Coaching $4 per formal session – informal sessions are free.

The best way to find out about us is to turn up and do a couple of coached or informal sessions to see if we are what you want before deciding to join; you can also discover who might be appropriate training partners. Your only outlay will be the $4 session fee for coached sessions.
