Craig Alexander winning the 2009 Sports Performer of the Year was not only an acknowledgement of his amazing achievements but also an indication of how he is admired by all. There are very few champions who are so accessible and give as much back to their sport as Crowie.

Craig Alexander's win in the 2009 Sports Performer of the Year Awards is a huge boost for the sport of triathlon. Our great sport is one that has an incredible level of participants from all walks of life who are intelligent, focused, driven and high achieving individuals.

Craig Alexander Sports Performer of the Year 2009

Triathletes often forge a lonely life swimming, cycling and running their way through each week as they train for their next ironman, half ironman, olympic distance or sprint triathlon. The one thing they all have in common is a passion for their sport unlike most other sporting participants.

Craig Alexander is the ulitmate example of someone who has dedicated themsleves to win one of the most grueling races on the planet. Racing for over 8 hours in extreme conditions is something that defies the sensibilities of most people. Sure, test cricket takes five days but no one would argue the phenomenal effort required to race in an ironman.

Craig is only the fourth man to win the Ironman World Championship two years in a row. Other mulitple winners were Dave Scott, Mark Allen, and Tim DeBoom.

Craig makes himself available to so many event organisers that it is hard to not see and/or meet him during the year. I know the events I have been to over the last year where Craig has given his time there has always been a sense of admiration and excitement about seeing him from the participants.

Congratulations Craig from the Balmoral Triathlon Club!!
